A little bit of an update.
The last few months have been VERY hectic. My car got wrecked, the man lost his job, my landlord raised the rent (to make up for the extra electricity I'm useing that's included with my rent. hehe.)
Ozzy passed away. He died from liver failure, which may have been worsened from improper nutrition in his earlier years. He had a chance to hang with a female ig for a while, so he at least had a good end of life.
I donated the savanna to a licensed exhibitor who also does school visits, as well as magic shows. He needed a little more space than I could currently provide him, so I figured that was best for him. He is doing extremely well and getting more tame avery day.
    Got a new baby!
A little Red Tail Boa. This little guy wasn't nesesarily a "rescue" but he did need a new home as his owners had to move and couldn't take him with them. He had been taken care of really well and is very friendly, so it looks like he'll be the perfect candidate for one of my "animal educators"
I'm going to name him "Gomez" as he has a little moustache and goatee marking on his face.

I guess that's all for now. I'll add more if I remember.

    Savanna rescue...
Ok, so I picked up another reptile rescue today.
He is a 5yr old Savanna Monitor. This lizard is easily close to 40" long from nose to tip of the tail. He is also a bit overwieght, which sadly not where the stupid ends.
This 30" long lizard was kept his entire life in a 40gallon tank. Now, for those of you not familiar with tank sizes this tank is 36" long and 18" wide. If the lizard was as old as they claim he would have outgrown this tank over 2 years ago!
Now, another problem is that even though savanna monitors come from very hot climates they require a fair amount of humidity to enable proper shedding and promote energy. He has about 3 layers of old shed caked on. This lizard was kept in this tank with nothing but some lizard turf (kinda like astroturf) and a VERY small (5" small) water bowl to drink out of.
They had no hiding spot for him and no climbing logs for him because "They took up too much room in the tank"
To top if off he had NO i mean NO basking light because the bulbs blew out a few months ago and they never bothered to replace them. He only had a small under-tank heater for warmth and a single florescnet bulb for light.
The reason for getting rid of him...He's too agressive.
Gee I wonder why, I'd be very pissed off in those conditions as well, to top it off she tried to use a STICK to get him out of the tank because she was afraid of him. I was able to reach in and pick him up without him struggling.
Another problem he has...Because of being in such a small cage for so long, he has very poor muscular definition. He walks as if he were drunk. It makes me so angry to see creatures in such poor condition. This is a reptile that under proper care tends to be extremely mellow and easy to handle. I hope its not too late to turn him around. He's currently enjoying his new 6' enclosure.
    Pics soon to come.

This is a sick, sick world. And I hope the people who did this get the maximum punishment possible.
I am posting this article because I think it hits close to home to anyone who cares about reptiles.
I don't like to sound like a animal-rights, peta freak or anything, but reading stuff like this just makes me hate people more. I feel like giving up all hope of huminity ever accepting the creatures that live around us. It is a devastating blow to the reptile community, and I feel that this is an act of sheer malice and hate towards living creatures....

    Welcome to my world.
The entire point of this journal is to share some of my stories about reptile keeping (and probably some other animals as well, since I have quite a zoo)
I'll start off by introducing my babies...
My biggest boy is Levi. He is an Albino Burmese python and measures in at just barely over 7' long. He still has alot of growing to do since he was way to short for his age when I recieved him as a rescue. He is currently 3 years old.
Then There's Ozzy. He is a green iguana that I adopted from someone who couldn't spend the time to care for him. At 10 years old he's doing wonderfully. Though he is missing a good portion of his tail, he still measures over 3' long and certainly is a large lizard.
Buddy is a dessert iguana. He is my boyfriends lizard and loves his mealworms and burrowing in sand. We've had him for the longest out of all our scaley critters.
Splat is a flying gecko. He is what alot of people think is cutest reptile we have. With special skin flaps on his sides and a flat leaf-like tail he's able to glide for short distances throught the air.
I also have a young corn snake with the normal red pattern. He does not have a name.
And the most recent adoption is a baby ball python who just barely measures in at 1.5 feet. He's a nippy little bugger, but I still think he's cute.
